Our next stop was in Memphis, and of course, we had to go to Graceland. You start at the area that has several exhibit buildings and two of his airplanes. Then, a trolley takes you across the street and through the famous gates, to the 'mansion'.

The house itself wasn't as big as I expected, but there were extra buildings, for instance, what used to be the racquet court and a lounge, now displays many of his famous performance jumpsuits and tons of awards.

It's really mind boggling the number of awards that he received, but his only Grammies were for his Gospel recordings. Overall, it was definitely worthwhile.

Driving south across Arkansas, we stayed a few days in Hot Springs and made a stop at the Crater of Diamonds St. Park. It's the only diamond mine open to the public and you get to keep any gems you might discover. Unfortunately for us, it had just rained for a couple of days, so everything was MUD!

In order to look for gems, you have to do similar to gold panning, wash the dirt (mud) through a screen with water....freezing cold water. We didn't find anything worthwhile. It was not fun....maybe we'll go back some day, with better weather.
