Where I stayed
Avila Beach RV Resort
Terry and I met at Carlos' for one last night before hitting the road north. It was a pretty drive up the coast to Pismo Beach. We stayed at a nice RV park for only five days, then we continued on up to San Simeon and a visit to the famous and extrodinary Hearst Castle.
Terry had never been there and it had been at least 25 years since my last time there, so we took the main tour that covers at lot of the main house, a large guest house, a lot of the gardens, and both the indoor and outdoor pools.
The luxury and grandeur is pretty mind-boggling. Before the tour, we walked through the photographic museum and also watched the cinerama-style movie that describes a lot of the history of the family and how the Castle came to be built and also about it's heyday, with the rich and famous celebrities that visited. They really enhanced seeing everything in person afterwards.
We had a friendly, and of course, very knowledgable tour guide. She did a wonderful job with her narrative, answered everyone's questions, and made it a memorable experience.
Later that afternoon, we drove inland to Bakersfield, to re-visit our friends Jeff and Linda. Little did we know, at that point, that we would land up staying in Bakersfield for almost three months!!
