We drove all the way up the west coast, visited Fox and Frans Josef Glaciers... witnessed a very strange thing which I'm yet to find an explanation. We were driving along a road on the way to Frans, there were trees on either side of us... no other people or cars in sight. The next thing we know, a piece of ice the size of a football falls out of the sky and smashes in the road right in front of us. We just glanced at each other with puzzled looks on our faces as we continued along the road. I can't think of an explanation, so if anyone has any bright ideas please let me know.

Greymouth was next, I sat on the beach all day just staring out to sea, just me, myself and my thoughts. It's been a whole year since I last saw the ocean, I hadn't realised how much I'd missed it. To mark this momentous moment, I carved the travel pod website address and my name into a piece of driftwood and threw it into the sea hoping it would be swept away to a far distant land to be discovered in years to come. Yet another blonde moment to add to my long list, I watched as the next wave brought it straight back onto the beach. Ah well, you win some you lose some. Maybe I'll get a message from someone in Greymouth who found my piece of driftwood...

We then headed over to Blenheim to visit the relatives. We stayed for one night, feeling a little guilty as we didn't give them much notice. I really enjoyed it there and although we had only met them once before, they made us feel at home. The next day we drove to the farm next door, Alison took us over to see the two horses after saying hello to the deer and little bambi's. We also met her dogs, Olive and Thornton - I would have taken them away with me if I could.
