We arrived in Crescent City, California yesterday at about 5:00 or so.  The drive on U.S. 199 from Interstate 5 to our campground was very stressful for Chuck and Jeff - lots of hills and twists and turns.  These big RVs have their pros and cons...but that will be in another blog entry.

After setting up at the campground, we headed out for a bike ride through the redwoods.  We did make a quick stop along the road when we saw a beach and the beautiful Pacific Ocean.  We all got out and some got their feet wet and took photos.  The sand is quite dark here.  It almost looks like there is oil mixed in with the sand, although I think it is just the geology of the area.  There were a lot of stone crabs that had washed up on the shore.  I'm not quite sure what their circumstances were, but it made me hungry for seafood!

If you are not a fan of Lord of the Rings, you might be wondering, "What in the world is an Ent?" in the title of this blog entry.  The Ents were big, ancient trees in the forest that could talk and walk around, kind of like the dryads in Narnia.  When you stand in the middle of a forest of these trees, you feel so small, it is unreal.  You feel like someone put you in the middle of Gulliver's Travels.  As we biked, the scent of the forest was just intoxicating.  They have Roosevelt Elk here, but we didn't see anything but the little deposits they leave behind, if you know what I mean.

It started to get dark, so we headed back to the cars.  The famous San Francisco fog also extends farther north up here and it rolled in at this time.  We decided to find a seafood restaurant and get some dinner before heading back to the campground.  It was a good restaurant and we were very thankful they seated us at 9:30 pm!

With full bellies, we slept very well, ready to get up and drive again the next day.

That's all for now,

 Patty
