I spent New Year's with Jonathan and Briana in Canmore. Jonathan went skiing on a mountain for the first time. He seemed pretty excited when he got back. Apparently though, it took him time to figure out how to turn left. You would think with all that time spent skating that turning left would be no harder than turning right...I guess not though. Briana went snowboarding. Jonathan told me that she looked surprisingly good at it. Unfortunately her day was cut a little short after spilling three times in one run. At least she was wearing a helmet. She mentioned to me though that she ended up meeting a couple of Austrailians who entertained her for the rest of the day.
Canmore itself was incredible. It was so pretty up there. There is something incomparable to the feeling of being surrounded by mountains. Somehow it always helps to put life back in perspective. The size and weight of the mountains forces you to remember how small you really are in comparison to the expanse of life. (Actually, these days I feel alot smaller than I used to) How big could your problems really be...they might still be important, but they are not bigger than life...
Thank you to Rick and Susan for putting me up and feeding me with such luxury. Truly wonderful experience. We even got to see fireworks.
The rest of our stay in Edmonton was also wonderful. It was almost sad though how spoiled Jonathan and Briana were. They were doted upon by Rick and Susan...good food...good alcohol...good memories...good games. There was a lot of laughter. I hope that Jonathan and Briana do not get an inflated view of themselves. Rick and Susan even took them to an NHL game (Oilers vs. Islanders). It was a sad/hard separation to watch though. Leaving is always hard. I hope I return there sometime soon. The Schroeder's, Parkland, Edmonton, it's a good place to be.
Much love,
Gandhi
