The bus ride was actually not as bad as I initially thought it was going to be.  We both slept almost the entire ride to North Hollywood, where we had about a 45 minute wait until we caught another bus to Oxnard, at which point our friends/relatives John and Denise would pick us up.  It turns out that it probably would have been just as convenient for them to pick us up in North Hollywood as it was to pick us up in Oxnard, but then we wouldn't have been able to witness the luggage door on the side of the bus fly open while we were on the highway on the way to Oxnard.  Yeah - that was comforting...  Luckily our bags didn't fall out (ours were right next to the door that opened).

John and Denise picked us up and treated us to breakfast.  Afterward we hit several thrift stores that were just down the street where we bought some clothes, and a case of 72 CFL lightbulbs that they were selling for 99 cents a piece.  They would be shipped back home to B'more later on.

Next was Santa Barbara.  The pictures can't really do it justice.  It's absolutely beautiful.  "Majestic" is the best word I can think of to describe the west coast beaches.  We walked around a bit, enjoyed the scenery, and then headed to Agoura Hills where John and Denise live.

Steak sandwiches and macaroni and cheese for dinner - yum!  The house is great, the kitchen is fantastic, and our room was very cozy - they even put a little gift basket of goodies next to the bed and two snuggly bathrobes in the closet.  We got a tour of the house and yard (even shot some hoops for a few minutes), hung out talking and joking, leeched off of their computer/internet access for a bit, and finally hit the hay.

Expenses for day 5: $18.54

clothes at a thrift shop: $13.34
coffee at bus station (us and fellow traveller): $5.20
