So we were going to rent a car from Athens and take a nice long 6 hr ride, then we realized time is money and we just booked a 40 minute flight instead. I have never been up here in northern Greece, but heard it is beautiful. From the moment we started descending I could see what everyone was talking about. Luscious plains with sporadic terracotta roofed houses...the mountains overlooking in the background.

Kritona, Angela's cousin, picked us from the airport and took us on an hour long ride to their house. Kritona is in the army, but was able to get off this week. Him and his wife were very hospitable to us. They have a 2 year old that is so cute and smart. We told them that we were going to kidnap him when we left. As a joke I told him I would settle for cutting some hair for DNA so we could clone him.

It took me a long 1 week to catch up on the blog only because we were traveling so much around Thessaloniki. No time or energy to write. We had an amazing time that was comprised of a water park, beach bars, lots of great dining and great company. The scenery was amazing. One day trip took us a lot longer to get to our destination because the farmers were on strike and shut down some major roads. It was great because the long way around was even more scenic through mountain roads overlooking green valleys and waterfalls.

All in all my favorite day of this entire vacation was that day with the waterfalls and thermal springs. It ended with a great dinner at Lithino, a very well decorated restaurant. The food was interesting and amazing. One dish that was pork meat shaped like tennis balls, stuffed with cheese and ham was called "King Kong's Balls". Another dish (I can't remember what it was) was called "The breasts of a butterfly".  You have to see the pics of this place. Like something out of a Tuscan town.

All in all a great time in Thessaloniki. The clearest, cleanest water I have ever seen and I have been to the Caribbean.

Back to Athens now for our trip to Ikaria.....
