We quickly got off the ship and went right to the Hertz rent a car post. They were right next to Avis so we tried haggling a bit. Jason, Kim Angela and I rented a sweet Peugeot 307. Jason powered up his TomTom GPS and we hit the road. I drove and he navigated....Angela did her usual back seat driving a bit, but it was under control.
We hit the major highway and took about an hour to get to Florence.
Once there we found a quick parking garage and hit the streets
Later on after a nice pizza break we hit the streets and found another place to have some wine. after that it was back to the car and off to Pisa....
We easily got to Pisa with a 45 min. highway drive and were amazed that we found a free parking spot right around from the corner from the famous leaning tower. Before we got there all four of us thought that all we would find is the leaning tire and it would be no big whoop, but how mistaken we were. It was great...It was so surreal that there ..right in front of us was the Leaning Tower of Pisa. it looked like it would actually tip over any moment, but I assume that there have been countless engineers on site through the years who say it is OK. thats why they allow people to go up. We didn't because we saw the line was way too long and just settled for silly picks where we made believe we were holding up the tower.
After that we hit a nice restaurant where we ate like Royalty...We had great calamari, sea bass, mussels and wine
The ride back to Livonia port was a bit of an adventure since we missed a turn, and I had to do a evasive reverse action on a highway and get back on the right path only to find that later on the road was closed due to police activity and we had to take the other road anyway...it was fun. What was even more interesting was that we saw countless good looking hitchhikers only to assume later that they were all prostitutes.
We get back on board and relax. We thought we would have a late night since tomorrow was a day at sea, but we were mistaken....the next day was Villa-France, France (Nice, Monaco and Cannes).
Oh well..that didn't stop all of us from hitting the bar and Casino. The casino was a popular place for us after we met the VT Ross's. they were regulars there. We didn't do to well... :(
