I left my job on Friday and had an amazing send off from my old work mates and never got home till 7am Saturday morning and was kind of panicking that I feel too ill to do any last minute running around getting all the bits and bobs that ill be needing to take with me,
Having been very sick after a ridiculous amount of cocktails and shooters and a King prawn Chou mein from China town all I wanted to do is get in my bed and sleep all day,
Waking up at 15.00 and feeling weirdly great with no hangover it was time to get my act together and get up to Covent Garden and buy my backpack which was my main worry.
So the count down has finally started for me,
In 24hrs time I will be sat on a plane in the air having taken off the runway at Heathrow on a 11hr flight to Bangkok,
And these are some of the final thoughts running through my head right now,
I hope I don't get delayed for ages,
Will I get on the right plane?
SHIT I hate flying and have never flown on my own before,
Will I get two massive fat people sat either side of me that stink of BO?
As I sit on my bed while watching Friends I'm thinking this is going to be the last time for the next 5 months that I’m going to have this privacy.
This is the first time in my life that I will have ever been away from home for this amount of time,
Of course im going to miss my home comforts and family and friends that I have, but im sure that I wont miss them that much once I have settled in to being a backpacker,
Ok I would like to pause there "ME A BACKPACKER"? Ok that makes me more nervous than I already am,
one thing that I would never expect me to do is this travelling malarkey.
But hey I’m doing it and although I’m nervous about it I am also very excited that I’m going to do this and get these experiences that will remain with me for the rest of my life,
Going to country's that I have only ever seen in magazines and on the TV and seeing the clear blue sea and meeting new people and making new friends, I can not think of a better way to start off a new year,
I will be starting my travels in Bangkok where I will be making my way through Thailand, Malaysia and flying out of Singapore after 5 and a half weeks,
I will be joined in my first two and half week of travels by my friend Bobby who has done the travelling scene before so he can be in control for the first few weeks before I’m left on my own not having a clue which way I’m meant to go,
Any of you that know me old school friends in particular will know what my map reading skills are like,
I then fly to Melbourne where I’m there for a week and then it's on to Sydney where I have 3 weeks there but might not stay there for the full 3 weeks I’m thinking of popping up to Queensland and maybe a quick week in New Zealand,
I fly from Sydney to Honolulu and that is where I am totally looking forward to going the thought of being in Hawaii is just like an amazing dream, Im there for a week before I get to the USA flying in to LA and will make my way around for 2 months going to Las Vegas, (And I will try to do my best and not get so pissed and end up married) Gran Canyon, New Orleans, Kentwood Louisiana, Texas, Miami, Washington DC, and finally New York before coming home.
As im typing this it still does not feel real that as of from tomorrow I will be starting my first day of travels,
I have to keep telling myself to stop being such a snob about sleeping in hostels as
they are the biggest part of travelling that I know that I will find the most difficult,
I’m also wondering how I will react to the food in Thailand as I don't like Thai food apart from a Phad Thai and I can not eat that every night I am there, So with a bit of luck I may come back looking stick thin with only fruit to eat as there is no way I’m eating any sort of meat out there.
Right must dash and make sure that I have everything packed in my bag,
And you will now hear from me on the other side.
