All I can say for now is WOW!! Because I said it pretty much every day. Pondering coming back to do the Hurtigruten cruise when the price drops in half on Sept. 1.........and going all the way north. Fantastic, incredible, cold and misty, the land of fairy tales.....When you are a little kid, imagining where the characters live in all those fairy tales, THIS is the place. What a beautiful, enchanting land.

Bergen is an almost too picturesque port on the western side of Norway. It's colorful historic buildings, boat filled harbors and bustling cafes and shops provide plenty to see and do. This quickly became one of my new favorite places to be. I spent days walking the cobbled streets, peaking through historic alleyways, poking into crafts shops seeing artisans at work, and eating at various bakeries and restaurants. Like any tourist destination, keep an eye out for where the locals and immigrants eat, and you're sure to find an affordable meal. Not bad, either. I must say I never got a taste for pickled herring or smoked fish in the morning, but I was able to find plenty of fruit and veggies to nourish my body after a long day of walking.

Much of what Norway has to offer is simply too rich to put into words, as its natural wonders are all around, from the air I breathed in to the mountains I looked upon, and the peace and quiet my ears were so pleased to hear. Take a look at my pictures and see for yourself the serenity of this magical land.......

ey
that is EXACTLY the feeling i had in norway. It is a place where time doesn't exist, it is a place of enchantment, whirling raging mass of waters, mountains of high, a place of magic and enchantment, kings, queens and fairy tales. It is so inspiring, and otherworldly. It is the only place where i have been driving in snow wondering if i'll make it out alive, and within the same 15 minute block driving through dense forrest where raging, pristine waterfalls are exploding across the road moments after having melted and followed the same altitude variations as me.

I would love to work there in the near future.

Re: ey
I will post photos soon, glad my writing could convey the feelings with pics! but Norway has a way of doing that, it is definitely one of my new favorite countries. I hope to do the Hurtigruten cruise up to the Arctic Circle one of these days....and to Svalbard to see the polar bears. I love Lonely Planet's warning. Don't go out at night unless you plan on being eaten for dinner.
