Where I stayed
Fiordland Cruises
I end up in agreement that the South Island is quite beautiful.
My favorite part was spending time on an old boat that now runs tours through Doubtful Sound, in Fiordlands National Park. Although it rained most every day, the fantastic food, the homemade muffins, and the great coffee made the trip really enjoyable, and the fun people I met made the trip unforgettable. Spending so much time in the southern seas, we started talking about the southern night sky and how sailors navigated by the stars. The boat had a library, and I found a book with celestial maps for each season. We studied them ferociously, and on our clear night we were ecstatic to discover the Southern Cross, linking us with sailors across the centuries. For three days and two nights we had a fantastic time eating, drinking, getting soaked and soaking up the sights. Just an awesome, fun time.
