An awful thing happened after I left the hotel and a GE colleague, Elaine in NY, I flagged another taxi with my huge suitcase and was on way to Grand Central station (to go the global conference in middle of nowhere Danbury) - I had not got far because of the traffic when the taxi took a sharp left across a crossroads and bang, knocked a guy over with his briefcase right there in the street - it was pretty scary, I was just sat in the back wondering what was going on, 2 policeman came over immediately from nowhere and I guess it did not occur to them to see if I was ok - fair enough! the guy knocked over bounced right up again and started to shout at the taxi driver. so I got out said um excuse please me in my best English accent and said shall I get out, stay, be a witness what? I was hoping it would not be the latter. They said yes Maam just leave please and take your luggage so I awkwardly lifted my suitcase out and felt quie shaky from the ordeal, last thing I wanted to do was hail another taxi in that Friday night rush hour traffic, but I did, got in and securely put on my seatbelt!
