Popayan

Another bus journey, travelling with Australian Nadine to Popayan further south in Colombia. We pass by Cali from Armenia and get to Popayan around 4pm after leaving on the bus in the morning about 10am.  On the way there I listen to music thinking isn't amazing I am on the trip of a lifetime and I am so enjoying it now. We arrive to more rain which is typical almost each day around 3 or 4pm in the afternoon.

Nadine cooks delicious arepas for our breakfast from cornflour and water with some cheese and ham added. We were set with fuel for a wonder around Popayan, we walk around the town visiting the view point, El Mirador in Spanish, which was a local hang out for young people wanting a grope. I re-named it 'Groping Hill'. A statue of Bolivar on a horse was heavily graffitied and had seen better days. We stopped at what looked like a small garage in a family's house. We tried 'Lulada', a small orange fruit in a juice with sugar and ice and a squirt of condensed mil to eat, was very nice and I could not believe I had not discovered this delicous fruit before and was going to be seeking out more Lulus!

Popayan is quite a traditional town and a very religious town. We used it as a stop-over place to break our journey. Cooking a lot and with a cool guy we met who's cycling all over Latin America in the hostal. It rained again in the afternoon just as I was making my attempt to laminate my press cuttings from the volunteer project I was at to keep them safe till I can send them home. As normal in Colombia, everyone in the shops was super helpful but in the end we could not laminate it as their machines were not large enough, in my best Spanglish again a man in one shop told me where to go to get it 'frio' so cold basically, and instead I have laminated around a plastic bag with the newspaper clippings safely inside.
