I booked a trip to Los Roques for just one day, yes I know it was short but it's all decisions about money and time, so decision was made based on that!

I get up super early to get to airport at 6.30am, hang around till after 10am or so before flight board, board a 12 seater which really does not look safe to fly, it seems like I am on someone's toy plane from everything like the boarding pass to the announcements the pilot makes which was generally don't worry it is going to be alright! Or at least I think that is what he says in Spanish.

We arrive and I am met by a lady speaking Spanish, she tells me after a quick welcome that there is a problem for me arriving today and that I should have come earlier... to which I said I was early at the airport and that I will have to leave on the 3pm flight. I ask her what the time is now ( I don't wear a watch in case it gets stolen) and it's already 11:30am and I am not even on the island where you can snorkely yet, so that's all about 3 hours in paradise, something tells me it's not all paradise in paradise :)

The island is super hot, my friends told me it would be even after wearing factor 45 liberally all day and in shade a lot I still have a glow of dark red lobster colour for the next two days after my trip.

I enjoy my fish lunch brought to me by a little boat and soak up some rays and do a bit of snorkelling, I see a few fish but not so many.

I suddenly realise as I am lying on the beach, with this view and it's a moment like this that should be shared with someone special and that I'm here alone. This and the traveling part is when I notice I'm on my own doing this, the rest of the time I don't think about it as I never feel alone as I meet people and chat to them every day.

A young boy arrives by boat to tell me I have to go, I am not ready still in a wet bikini and just had my starfish moment demonstrating my amazing photography skills of taking a photo of myself in one hand whilst holding a starfish!

No I need more time. I complain a lot about this and tell the organiser I am not happy she gives me the manager name to check if I can receive a refund. I board the flight literally using my towel still to shake the sand off of my wet body and throw my sundress over my head and a cardigan.

That was a short trip to a small island but beautiful and still worth it.

What a shame your visit was so short. I bet you would have liked to stay there for days.

As Martin mentioned above, it is so pity to be in such paradise for so little. This reminds me of our trip to the Virgin Islands sailing for so many hours and when we arrived at St. John and Saint Thomas islands we had so little time to swim and take a tour of the islands.
