Captivating Korcula

My brother David recommended we come to Croatia. We had heard that it was a pretty place, or something of the sorts. We took his advice, checked it out with some travel books and here we are. We are sitting on our balcony of our $30 lovely room, thanking God that David nudged us here.

Even in the middle of the trip we weren't sure if we were going to make it down this way. Money is going faster than we had hoped and it made sense to cut out this leg of the trip. Something in us just wanted to do it. Although it would be frustrating getting here, we wanted to see Croatia and Slovenia. So we forked up the extra cash, jotted the money spent in our expenses book, and here we are thinking it is worth every penny. So we get home and are even more poor, we are very capable of getting jobs and earning cash. I am sure that once we get home it would cost us a lot more to get back. So we are enjoying our southern adventure into Croatia. It is an amazingly beautiful place.

The palm trees remind me of Florida. They line the coast and welcome you. The various shades of clear blue water remind us of the Caribbean. The architecture draws similarities to Italy and Florida at times. The old town square is adorable, a timepiece which seems to be thoroughly used yet unchanged over many years. The internet connections are as ancient as this place. The people have been incredibly friendly and make me wish I had much more time to sit and relax. They shared with us the struggles and traditions of the people here and made us feel like we had found a little piece of home far far away from our own country. They talked with us about our lives and discussed how different we are from their family. No one leaves here. They stay, raise their family, and pass along their line of work. As I looked out at the shades of blue and the bright sunshine overhead, I told her I understand why.

Our landlady told us that she goes swimming everyday. It is a bit chilly here so we asked her the temperature of the water. She told us it is about 20 degrees Celsius. It looks inviting, yet when we did the conversion we found out that is about 68 degrees Fahrenheit. When the sun in beaming down on the water we will dangle our toes and see how it feels. I am not ready to go dive in just yet. We'll see how warm it gets today. I am sure it would be a fun memory to add to the list.

I hate to say that we leave here tomorrow. That is one of the problems you get when you don't work with flexible plans. We couldn't imagine taking two more boats, to get to two more buses, to get to four more trains, to get us back up to Vienna where our next flight is scheduled to leave. So we bought plane tickets from Dubrovnik back to Vienna. It doesn't look like much sense on a map, but it saved us money in the long run. We leave for Dubrovnik tomorrow and fly out of Croatia on Saturday.

We will be near Vienna until Friday when we start our Greece leg of the trip. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. God has been incredibly wonderful to us and we know He is taking care of us every step of the way. (Speaking of steps, I stepped on my glasses and smashed them. Yikes! I was frustrated. Thankfully, I brought my old pair.) We'll continue to do our best to keep you posted. We update whenever we have a chance and then send out a mass email after we have a few entries or good information posted. If you want to know where we are more often you can check the site and see if we had a chance to upload anything. If you want less emails you can simply go the site and unsubscribe from the address book. Just know we are thinking of you, miss you, and are thrilled to be sharing our adventure with you.
