9/23- 9/26 Our Time in Garmisch

We are approaching an end to our time in Garmisch. It has been a nice relaxing time. The first day was filled with mountain delight. The second consisted of some shopping, a short but exciting toboggan ride and another visit to the mountains. It was good to have a bit of a lazy day. Last week we were going, going, going, and we are glad to be at a bit of a slower pace.

Yesterday we ventured to King Ludwig's famous castle of Neuschwansteain. The bus ride to get there was absolutely horrible. I was sincerely wishing we had a rental car. They took a 40 mile journey and turned it in to 2 hours of torture. Thankfully when we arrived it was worth it.

The castle was amazing. It stood on the hill for all to see. We walked up a large hill and got closer and closer to the magnificent structure. As we reached the top we made our way into the courtyard and ate our lunch we had packed. This tided us over until the tour.

As we ventured through the castle it was very ornate. The king had styled it after Wagner and his operas. It made for a theatrical visit. Room after room was covered with paintings, wood carvings, and gorgeous furniture. I imagined that this would be a place for a great get together with tons of people. Instead we were ushered into a few rooms and allowed to see a small piece of this amazing structure. I kept thinking of how awesome it would be to wander freely and explore a life lived long ago. Instead I was left to use my imagination to wander in this amazing fairy tale world.

We ventured back home on the bus again and made dinner. It was a good long day and we were tired.

We slept in on Sunday and had our own little church service. We found a verse which we are wanting to hold on to. "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thes. 5:16-18 So we are memorizing it so we can take in on our journey with us. Whenever things get a little challenging we say the verse to each other and it brings a smile.

This afternoon we ventured to an internet café and once again experienced difficulty with trying to get pictures uploaded. We then headed to a little piece of America, the Army Base here in town. It was nice to be able to get a few things from home and a coke with ice. We were glad we made the trip.

Tonight we have packed up our things so that we may continue our travels. The plan is to head to Salzburg tomorrow. We had such a great time there before that we want to spend just one more full day. From there we plan to head to Halstaat in the lake district of Austria. We aren't sure if we will have internet access or not. When we can, we will touch base with you again. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
