For a small collection of islands with a relatively large population, the British Isles have got a lot of green space! The Heart of England Way quickly leaves Lichfield and heads back to rich green pastures and woodland. The birdsong can't quite drown out the distant hum of traffic from the M6 or the planes from Birmingham airport but it's pretty peaceful and the sun is shining.
The route then heads onto the Birmingham & Fazeley canal for an easy couple of miles to Kingsbury Water Park. This park has been created from reclaimed gravel pits and there really is something for everyone from jet biking to model boating with different lakes for individual sports, a minature train, cycle and riding tracks, and wilder areas for peace and quiet. The RSPB are also creating a new reserve just to the north so this really will be a haven for wildlife. How quiet it actually is at the weekends when the park is full of people is another matter!
Whitacre Heath is then another mile or so on via the Centenary Way and although today's route is about 14 miles, it is the easiest 14 miles for a long time!

The forecast rain never appears.
