It's the coldest morning in May in 17 years! Brrr!
The Staffordshire Way heads south from Uttoxeter through Abbots Bromley and then west to Rugeley with its huge power station. Here it's possible to pick up the Heart of England Way on Cannock Chase to head east to Lichfield. Looking again at the map this seems an awful long way round. Time for an adventure!  There looks to be a route of tiny country lanes and footpaths that will lead more directly to Lichfield...
Some of these paths have fallen into neglect which is a shame as this is a rich corridor of countryside where it's hard to tell that industrial towns and motorways lie only a few miles away.
Wren clearly has the gift of foresight - last night we watched "Australia" which has a plot about cattle droving and with field after field of cows I need those skills in earnest today.
The adventure leads to a rather late arrival in Lichfield but there's still time to convince James, another guest at the B&B, to go for a balti at a curry house recommended by another walker I met en-route.  After all, this is Birmingham country!

Today's smiles:
Lanes full of bluebells and blossom
My herding skills - perhaps not good enough to convince Hugh Jackman to take me droving!  The cows keep ending up in the front of the stile/gate I need to get through...
The big fox watching me as I "pop behind a hedge"!
The herd of deer standing proud on a hill as I drop down into Lichfield.  There weren't wild deer but still a majestic sight.
