Note to self - top navigation tips gleaned from the Standedge to Crowden walk:

1.  Assume nothing
2. Start on the right sheet of the map.  There may be only half a mile on that sheet but that does not mean it will be straightforward!  See point 1.
3. Pay attention and keep turning the map over as necessary!  See point 1.
4. A path may be well-trodden.   That does not mean it's the right path...  See point 1.
5. Compass bearings are great but don't show when a bog gets boggier.  Neither do OS maps.  Sometimes it's easier, quicker and less messy to backtrack to the point where the wrong turning was taken!
6.  The OS map may be brand new.  That doesn't mean the path hasn't moved in the meantime...  See point 1.

Maybe one day I'll learn, in the meantime I'll just have to keep on getting muddy!

Tonight I'm staying with a family friend who is incredibly kind and makes a delicious moussaka too!  Thanks Shirley and family for a lovely stay.

What made me smile today:
I met at least 20 Pennine Way walkers today, plus several day walkers.  Walking season has started!
That the path to the summit of Black Hill has been "slabbed".  In the early days of the Pennine Way, this section was notorious for its oozing black peat bogs...
