Jane and I start the day with a photo session to prove that there really is someone else out there mad enough to walk from one end of the country to the other!
The path is genuinely busy today as the Pennine Way passes the popular sights of the High and Low Force waterfalls and crosses the Teesdale Way.  There are walkers everywhere!  I'm also passing Middleton-in-Teesdale, a town with pubs, cafes and shops (note the plurals!) so a stock-up on essentials is in order!
Moving swiftly away from civilization, the path heads higher and drops down between several reservoirs to reach the beautiful dale of Baldersdale.  High and remote, this is where Hannah Hauxwell lived without utilities and with an annual budget of just £250 and a calf to sell until 1988.
Luckily there is accommodation up here as the next village is still 15 miles away and things aren't quite so spartan in the lovely Clove Lodge B&B.  It's luxurious and much needed as my right foot is throbbing and I've limped through Lunesdale and Baldersdale!

What made me smile today:
Dive-bombing lapwings
Lovely B&B and Caroline's delicious cooking
