Today the path heads around the edge of the Kielder Forest and across open moorland to the little town of Bellingham.

The forestry tracks are easy going but pretty dull with only fire breaks and adjacent tracks to break the view of mile upon mile of pine trees!  Once on the moors, it's a battle with peat bogs and a long squelch to Bellingham.

For the first time in days there is the sound of aircraft overhead.  Clearly the volcanic ash from Iceland is clearing...

Tonight I'm staying with Nicky, a friend of a friend, and her family, who have very kindly offered to put me up in Hexham.  It's great to relax in their lovely house, hear all about Rainbows and ballet lessons, have a hot bath and update the blog!  Thanks Nicky!

What made me smile today:

The lamb that I accidentally woke up - in a confused, half-asleep state it thought I was its Mum!

Hi Charlie lovely to read your blog and here about your gorgeous spring adventure. Sorry I've been so out of contact, it's been a bit hectic here and I haven't had a minute. Seems like you got out of Kyrgyzstan at the right time! Take care, walk well and lets have a chat on the phone soon. XXXXXX

It was a pleasure having you to stay! Kate asked this morning when you'd be back. I'd told her that you'd pop in on your way back to John O'Groats!!
