Needed to get away from the evil NBO so took a trip over the hills to a Rift Valley soda lake called Magadi. V similar to Lake Natron but a bit crapper. Was a loverly drive. 110km south. Now don't dislike Kenya so much. The town itself is one big company town. Really soulless and quite scary. Kinda a cross between off-season Butlins, Auswitz and a welsh mining village. The lake (once you got away from the giant soda factory - calcium and sodium carbonate if you're interested) was actually quite lovely. Entirely encrusted with crystallised soda, pinkish, even without the hundreds of flamingoes wading through it. You can see it quite well on GoogleEarth.
Just a day trip but v worthwhile.
