Once upon a time there was a small boy with a Honda 250 XLR pikipiki, which he loved very much.  They went everywhere together and had many happy adventures playing in and around Mwanza.  In fact the bike was the boy's only real friend, as the people in Mwanza didn't trust people with beards and one eyelid lower than the other.  After the boy's contract as science teacher at Isamilo School finshed he decided to elope with his bike back to the UK, where no one would judge them.

So he set his route, which was not the easiest thing in the world due to the rather large number of wars going on in Africa at any one time; packed his bags with as many marmite and cheese sandwiches as he could carry; turned himself into a 5* motorbike mechanic (scoff); and set off on his travels.

The plan: Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Italy, France, Britain.  3 months.  Whether this  will be possible he does not know.  Perhaps he will break down 10km from Mwanza and get a daladala straight to the airport.  Perhaps he will not be allowed into Libya and will have to turn right at Cairo instead.  Perhaps (as was suggested by some mean-spirited friends) he is actually just going to Nairobi to get a cheaper flight, after which he will send blog entries periodically from his comfy seat in SW London, pretending to be in far-off climes.  Whatever happens he hopes he will see some amazing sights, meet some interesting people, and have some adventures-just not too adventurous ones.
