Campingplatz Koblenz

There were glorious blue skies this
morning and we left the campground at 10am. Just down the road we
took the ferry across the Rhine to Bingen. The trail was either
brick or paved and we had the wind at our backs. Kind of like a
downwind run on our sailboat. Our original plan was stop in a
campground near the Loreley but, things were going so well we decided
to continue to Koblenz. The trail was very busy, as always. We must
pass between 50-100 cyclists a day, a third of which are bike
touring.

We stopped in Oberwesel and ate pizza
at Toscana restaurant. We love the pizzas here because they have a
wonderful thin crust. After lunch, we realized that one of our
camping mats was gone! It must have fallen off when we went over a
series of swales miles back. We decided not to go back and try to
find it because it could have bounced off the trail into the bushes
or someone might have picked it up.

We were able to replace it in Kolbenz
before we got to the campground.
The Rhine is a very busy commercial
river with barges and cruise ships. It seems that around every bend
of the river there is a castle or ruin. The vineyards go up the
steep hills and I'm sure the harvest is very hard work. Almost like
you would have to be a mountain goat.
The campground in Koblenz had been
totally remodeled since we were there in 2006. It has everything you
could want and it's very clean.
Dinner at the tent was pasta, bread and
a wonderful tempranillo . The wine was 1.99 euro or $2.50. Tomorrow
Remagen.

Enjoying keeping up with you! We've been hosting numerous out of town guests. This Thursday we plan to leave on a boat trip, heading west, but not going far. Probably be gone 4-7 days. Glad you're having fun. G & S
