We slept in this morning and then Steve took us biking down to Fargo to see where the Red River floods each year. It was amazing to see this calm river and know that each spring it swells its banks up beyond the roadways and houses. We actually saw men working on a new levy to hold the water back.
We spent quite a bit of time going through Steve's photos, and we found some great ones of my grandparents and my parents. My favorite photo, however, was the one in which my sweet daughter is loving on my Uncle Steve. I can't wait to scan it and share it with Shelley. In the photo she is just a little girl, and this is a tender photo.
After a late lunch, Ted and I had to leave. We really would have enjoyed more time in Fargo, but we needed to get to the next place on our trip. We hated to say goodbye. :(
On to Brainerd, Minnesota--this fairly short trip turned into quite an adventure. About 30 miles from Diane's house, a flock of six or seven Sandhill Cranes walked across the highway, and I hit them with the CRV. I killed two of them, and I was so upset. They are beautiful birds, and since they were molting, they probably couldn't fly. And to add more misery, the Honda dealer we visited the next day said we probably had over $700 in damage to the vehicle. I am sure our insurance agent can add that story to one he had never heard before!
We arrived at Doug's lakehouse for dinner, and of course, it was wonderful. Minnesota hospitality ranks right up there with Southern hospitality.
