You will be glad to know we made it back at last. The people in Muscat stuck to their word and we were put on, incredibly, a 30% full plane back to Heathrow. It took us 2 days to make the journey but we were both just glad to be back in time for Christmas with our families after a year away. But my god, it is bloody freezing here after the highs of the tropics! It's funny as I always imagined it would be really upsetting and hard to return after so long away but in the last few weeks I found my self increasingly excited about my return and having all the little comforts of the UK like food, TV, family and friends etc... that you find you miss a lot when travelling. And what is even funnier is that after a few weeks of being back, it feels like I was never gone. Nothing has really changed and I have slipped into my old ways with the memories of the trip seeming like something from a dream.

So on reflection what did I take from this trip? Well I met so many people and cultures it really opened my eyes to the world and how I feel about different areas. I got chance to eat some amazing food - my favourite being either Asian street food particularly in Malaysia or Argentinian steak, or even Central American tortilla concoctions. I learnt 'Hello' in so many languages and realised I want to pursue Spanish in the UK. I saw some of the greatest sights on earth, the favourite two being Iguazu Falls and Angkor. I got chance to live and work in Australia which was interesting but made me appreciate how awesome London is. I discovered that my favourite country is Argentina and I will definitely be heading back to meet the friendly people, enjoy the amazing food and wine and take in some more football. And finally, I realised that actually I do miss home. 1 year, an amazing amount of memories and a life changing experience.

Finally, a few figures about the trip:

We travelled 70,000km - nearly twice around the globe
We were in transit for 581 hours...
...of which 470 hours were on buses!
We were away 323 days
We saw 21 UNESCO sites
We visited 18 different countries
I read 14 books and a job lot of Lonely Planets
I got my PADI licence and went diving 11 times
We set foot on 5 continents
We hiked 2 volcanoes
I only had 2 haircuts on the whole trip
And finally, me and nicci are still together!
