How to get to Geneva (Genevé)-the Melissa and Catherine route
So we are starting our "backpacking" around Switzerland, Portugal, and Spain. First things first, today I went to Pfaffenhofen to the Wollemeise shop for my mom. Yesterday, I bought my ticket with no trouble and boarded the train to go yarn shopping. I was preening with pride over my simple ability to buy a train ticket and then correctly select the right platform for this experience. It's the little things in life... Anyway, I walk into this shop and it is bright colors everywhere. I stand around looking utterly helpless, a specialty of mine, and Dani came over to help me. I handed her my papers from my mom and my cousin's friend and ask for help with getting what they want. Two hours later, multiple phone calls from and to my mom, I had about 8lbs of yarn to figur out how to deal its on the trip back to the states. It was a complete success.

Ok now the trip. Melissa had a backpack for me to use and I packed that thing to the max, but I kept removing things because I decided I would have to live without it to make my pack hit measurements designed by the airlines we were flying. This was no a success. And despite my awesome packing and getting rid of things, the bag was huge and heavy. Backpacking anywhere is not a thing I enjoy apparently. Melissa comes home, buys herself a new backpack and packs and are off to Nuremberg airport to drop off hr rental car. We then take the underground to Nuremberg main train station (train 1). From Nuremberg we hop a train to Frankfurt (train 2) which was running late. On this train we enjoyed ourselves quite an elaborate wine and cheese dinner. Lots of cheese, Melissa using a wooden throw away ice cream spoon as a knife on a cucumber and a mess. It was delightful. We got to Frankfurt and jumped onto the train next to it to go to Frankfurt airport (train 3). It was in the Frankfurt airport I talked to my mom, dad, Susan and Marion, as well as met some new person all while having helped kill two bottles of delectable wine. Excellent impression I was making.
It was the Frankfurt airport to Bassel, Switzerland train that made Melissa and I think of Eurotrip and die laughing. We had a sleeper car on this train which was amazingly worth it. The attendant woke us up, fed us and made sure we got off on the right stop. It was about 3 hours of sleep on that train ride (train 4). We then hoofed it to our next 2 hour train ride into Geneva (train 5). And that is the incredibly easy, straight forward way we got from Nuremberg, Germany to Geneva, Switzerland.

Along with that train ride went our regularly scheduled sleep in decently comfortable beds for who knows how long.

Next up Geneva Day One.

Love,
Catherine
