After Freddie and Iden's visit, Adel and I needed a break!! ONLY KIDDING!! I acutlly wish that they could have come with us to our next destination....Cartagena. Cartagena is a beautiful city that is on the Atlantic coast (it's probably the most well known of Colombian cities)and has a beautiful ancient walled city. Adel and I stayed at the Santa Clara (where Susan and Anya stayed when they were in Colombia in November '05). It's a beautiful hotel and we had a ton of fun! The best part was the visit to the natural volcano/mud bath in a nearby town called Totumo.

Of course, Adel was not too happy when we got there! It wasn't exactly the Ritz Carlton Spa that he was use to! Adel is my best friend in Bogota and we get along famously. We are completely different people, but have lots in common. Traveling with him is always a blast. He must think I'm crazy, but I think he always has a good time. In any event, enough kudos for Adel.

We got to Tutumo after a 45 minute cab ride. We arrived at the volcano and we were the only ones there. We paid about $US5 for the dip that included a massage in the mud for both of us. You can't beat that! We jumped in (okay slowly) and were completely boyant. The density of the mud kept us afloat and it was a wild feeling. At times, you would see bubbles errupting and wonder whether someone let out some hot air (hahahah!). After bouncing in the mud for a while, we were dipped in the nearby river and rinsed off by some locals. Then we changed back into our clothes and headed back to Cartagena for a real shower and a great meal at 8-18 (did I mention they have AWESOME restaurants in Cartagena???).

Then next day, we rented a speed boat or at least Colombia's version of a speed boat and headed out to the islands (there are no really good beaches in Cartagena). For $100US we had a boat to ourselves for the day that took us wherever we wanted to go and whenever. We visited Islas del Rosario and Baru. Then we stopped at a little island where folks were partying and sat in the water on a table and chairs and ate lobster!!! Life doesn't get much better until you see a rainbow.

It was a great day and a fabulous weekend! Where will our next adventure take us????????????? Who knows!!!

Love and miss you all....
