Justin dropped us off at Penn/Baltimore Station just before 9:00 and we jumped on the 9:05 to Union Station in DC, we arrived just after 10:00 and the station is impressive enough even before heading to monuments an museums.
We walked straight across to the Capitol Building and headed around the front, where we could see the full length of the National Mall, which is over two miles long. The architecture and masonary in this place is amazing. We trundled off down the mall toward Washington Monument which is currently under repair.
We stopped in at the Museum of Natural History about half way up and wandered through checking out all of the displays spread over three floors - well worth having a look at. Our next stop was the Museum of American History just a few doors up - which was equally as impressive, they certainly know how to pump themselves up. We stopped in at the Stars and Stripes cafeteria for a coffee right on lunchtime, and the joint was full of school kids.
After our cuppa we continued up past the reflecting pool to the Lincoln Memorial and climbed the stairs into the building, our legs were starting to feel the pinch by this stage and we still ahd to walk all the way back. On the way back we stopped at the Air and Space Museum, it's amazing how they get such big displays like full size rockets and planes inside. We also stopped in at the American Indian Museum, I really like this place, I have a bit of a soft spot for the Natives.
We arrived back at Union Station about 3:30 after walking about 6 miles and had a bit of time to kill before our 4:10 train back, so we wandered around the upmarket stores throughout the building. We got back to Baltimore just after 5:00, Justin and Cooper met us at the station and we headed off to Red Robin for dinner.
After dinner we went into the Pet Shop so Cooper could check out the birds and fish. The idiots over here call budgerigars, little parakeets; I let them know they have no idea. Saying that I might whack on the parakeet smugglers when I hit the pool tomorrow. We had a quick game of baseball at the local park and sent Cooper home to his Mom as fired up as possible, the little fella had a ball.
Tomorrow is our final full day here, we'll finish of our shopping and have to pack to leave early on Thursday.
