We slept in a little later than we wanted to this morning, as we had planned on heading into Hoboken and catching a ferry to the Big Apple. In the end we just had to settle for Hoboken, we left at about 10:00 and arrived at 11:30, luckily we snagged a carpark in Washington Street just a few blocks away from Carlo's Bake Shop of Cake Boss fame.
We wandered up to the shop and had to queue up out the front to be let in, we probably stood in line for about 15 minutes before entering the store. We were given a numbered ticket and wait until it was called before we could put in our order, some of the people in front of us were ordering up pretty big. We got to order and decided on a couple of cannolis each and a coffee the bill came to about 15 bucks.
We thought it would be a good idea to head to the waterfront to find somewhere to sit and enjoy our late morning tea. There was people everywhere enjoying the sun in the park and we sat down on the wall right at the end looking across the Hudson to Manhattan, this is as close as we were going to get. The claim that these cannolis are the best in the world is disputable, I'm sure there would be some challengers for that title on Lygon Street but they were pretty good, quite sweet though we could only manage one each. The town of Hoboken looked to be a nice place in the short time we were there, particularly being so close to NYC.
We head back to our motel and arrived about 3:00, got a hold of Rando and spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool. We headed back down to the boardwalk for dinner, which was a lot quieter and ended up sharing a 27" pizza at The Sawmill. After dinner we had to walk back through the chilly sea mist and make our sad farewell to Rando, it was great catching up with the guy and we're both looking forward to the next time.
Our time in Jersey was all but over, let's hope they restore the shore.
