Back to the tournament on Sunday.... These girls really caught fire! They played one of the toughest teams at 8:30am. It went 3 sets and they finally beat em. It was so intense. I don't think any of us ever would of expected Empire to beat a team this good. None of us could believe it! So, anyway, Empire moved up and played tough all day long and remained in the top 3 positions. It came down to a nail biter in the final match of the day. Of course it went 3 sets again and Empire won it in the 3rd. Violet had to serve 3 of the game points in these final matches. She has a game face, is so confident and never choked under pressure. We had so much family that came out to see her play too. We were all so scared for her when she got up to serve game point, but she was cool as could be. All the girls played like we've never seen 'em play. Alas they took 1st place! I can't believe the improvement in these girls. Back in January they couldn't win a game. Not even come close. They have the crappiest low budget jersies that didn't fit them at all. They have to tie them up to keep them from looking like they were wearing a dress. So funny. Most of the team could not even make a serve over the net. Then, out of nowhere, they became the feared team. Really cool to see. Their coach did an awesome job for sure. From what the coach said, it's possible that Empire ended up taking 1st place, not only in this tournament but, in the whole North Coast division! Unbelievable!

Anyway.... what an intense day. We set up the trailer in the parking lot and barbequed hot dogs and had a real tailgate party. It was great fun.

We said our goodbyes for the Summer to all our friends and family. Violet took it pretty hard but by evening she was in roadtrip mode. We cleaned up and hit the road toward Pismo Beach.
