Where to begin...? We've had the idea to take a long roadtrip since we purchased our RV a few years ago. We wanted to drive cross-country and see what all the hoopla is about. Neither one of us had been "back east" before. We'd never checked out southern Utah, New Orleans, Key West...etc. I decided that I want to get this stuff out of the way while I am still capable enough to, among other things, roll around in a skatepark, drink too much beer and eat food that tastes really good but isn't good for you. Also, to justify this extravagant vacation I told myself it would be a great thing to show our daughter the good ol' US of A while she was still young enough for us to force her into it. (whether she wants to or not, damn it!) Anyhow, it's called a mid-life crisis I guess. I do realize that it would probably be cheaper to seek out "professional help" for this issue but that wouldn't be near as fun right!? Actually, "my" initial plan involved a sailboat but for several reasons that wasn't going to work for us. So we bought a 5th wheel in '07. At first we had the crazy idea to travel around the US and Mexico for a year. We took into account that we would have to quit our jobs and home school Violet. We would lose our medical insurance plus benefits and Vonnie would most likely lose the majority of her clients. Violet would miss her first year of jr high. (Apparently this is a huge blow to a 12yr olds' social status). So, after weighing the pros and cons, we decided to drastically cut the trip down to a measly 10 weeks. I was able to arrange for a leave of absence from my job. We could keep our benefits in place and come back home still employed. I have to admit, Violet was tough to get on-board with our plan. One of the things we had to bribe her with was a 2 day trip to Disneyland! Violet has always been a little reluctant to leave home for any extended length of time but she always comes around after a day or two on the road and is actually a really good traveler. We will have Internet along the way and we'll stay in touch with everyone via email and this travel blog.

Sounds like it's all dialed in. I'm glad Violet decided to take you guys somewhere in her RV; I wasn't sure if she would be into it or not. No doubt she is the leader of the trip; lucky Vi comes up with good plans!
Violet did you print out your provisional road trip pre-teen RV license yet?
Chad you can put a sail on the rig and it will be like you are sailing around the country and save gas when the wind is right.
I am super stoked you guys are going, what a great the trip! It's going to be rad to clean out the house and just cruise, let the future unfold one day at a time.
Party down!

Really thrilled for you all to be blessed to have the opportunity for this. I highly doubt anybody got to the end of their road and said "I wish I would have worked more." We look forward to hearing more about this journey!
