Spent the day trying to plan my next move into the Pantanal. Armed with the trusty Lonely Bi8ch (Who we all of course know, will never let us down) - headed straight to the, and I quote´`highly recommnded`` anaconda tours which are ¨well organinzed¨.
First thing wrong - office doesnt exist anymore. After struggling along in the TAM office, found it was down near the square. Still cant find it. Ask the Tourista information and htey call. THey guy meets met and I get ushered into this dodgy little office. Turns out I am the only one wanting to go and the cost is a cheap 1700 Reals for 4 days (compared to the Bit6ches 300-500). Bargin.
SEcond thing strange - header on ads are different, Set out for abetter deal elsewhere and find again no one is going out on Friday. TRudge home for some lunch to find they mircuolously have found some one Sat and I get the discounted rate of 970 Reals (500USD). Being sick of looking, as most had little English and the bit*ch had recommendned it, decided to take it along with their tour today.
They tend try to corral me into buying airtickets - am sick of this and their credit facilities dont work so they want cash, I pay them 2/3rds now. Inspired move it turns out. I get back to the hotel to find out they actually went out of business and have recently relauched under his wifes name the new business. Dodgy dodgy dodgy. The worst bit is the LP recommends it.
Of course there is no english speaknig guide today. But lets get to good bit -the lago. it the middle of these plains with cattle is this hidden little river and lagoon. The water is the clearest I have ever seen - just like those baywatch oceans scenes from the early 90´s - kept hearin the hoff cheer me on as I floated along, waiting for Pamela to rescue me....sorry sidetracked there.
You float along with the fish, there are sting rays and sea snakes as well. How the hell they ended up 2000km inland I am yet to ascertain. Better yet I was the only tourist there today.
Anyway highly recommend it. Off to the actual pantanal tomorrow, with a promised english speaking guide.
