MB and BB slept in... Yeah we are finally getting our sleep in order!!!  After starting off the day lazily we walked do the"rossio" of Sta.Barbara de Nexe... a walk she and her brothers have done hundreds of times.  MB explained certain things about walking these paths and  made it over to Prima Carmelita and Primo Zeīs place.  Once the hub of many exciting parties, summer vacations, playtime and gettogethers, this place is now starting to show itīs age and feels desolate.   So much has happened over the  40 years she has been here, mostly good ...the endless afternoons of MB and her little BrotherBears playing in the fields, delicious delicacies and times with Madrinha and Padrinho.  Now both are gone and their presence is missed by all.  The grounds are no longer well-kept and not for lack of resources but for lack of health and probably desire. Not much happiness is felt here now, in fact it saddens MB to say this, but it is very sad to be here after all these years. The first time, MB has felt saddness at the people that are no longer with us.  MB showed BB where she climbed to with her cousin Pedro and how we would hide from the adults, where the chickens and animals used to be.... Nothing but ruins now. So sad to see this once grand house falling apart over time.

We did manage to get in a few fotos of Prima Carmelita  the sweetest soul anyone would ever meet. She wouldnīt hurt a fly,but life has not been kind to her.  Almost housebound due to health issues she finds enough strength to smile and pose for our pictures.  She even told MB how beautiful BB he is with his dadīs eyes and momīs features. You can tell he takes after you too.    She is enamoured by him... thats when MB senses what she use to as a child, the love and affection she always had to have children around.  Prima Carmelita let us run like wild ones throughout the house, even during itšs glory days when her's was the īgrandest house in town... she just wanted to hear the laughter of children and see our smiles. Never got angry even when MB went flying into a bunch of her house plants and managed to land on a cactus.... or the time MB (at the age of 5) locked myself up and refused to open the door because I was mad at my parents.  Telling MB this story, still makes her laugh to this day. She said at that young age she could feel MBs tenacity and great strength in me even then.  You have the Andreī eyes, green/brown AND  she compares me to her sister Zulmira (which is a compliment)
Before we leave she tells us to remember her she doesn`t know how long she will be here....We promise to visit again!!!

I debated whether to even write this entry, but with the great moments there are sad moments while visiting here too. Many of our loved ones are now gone, all we have are memories that have resulted in us loving Portugal. MB and her brother bears and their wives love it here too.  I have told Grandpa Bear, I just want BB to love it here AS MUCH AS I do because no matter, this will always feel like a second home, where we many great memories, but itšs getting harder as we lose our family and friends along the way.  Sad at times, to look around, but love that we can still visit with those that are tied to our past, to my life once lived.
