After a cold and greasy breakfast at the twilight hotel, we left Chimois for Vilankulo, our last full day of driving before reaching the much anticipated Mozambique coast and two weeks of relaxation, or so we thought. Vilankulo is one of Mozambique's top beach destinations because of it's white sand, turquoise waters and it's gateway to the Bazaruto Islands.
The drive was straight forward but we were surprised to find that Vilankulo was a busy town. We checked out a few places that all looked deserted and settled with the Baobab Backpackers. We weren't entirely happy with the choice because it was in the middle of the village and security was a potential issue and the beach was busy with local activity(fishing and dhow ferries). The nicer beach was only a few km north but unfortunately had only higher end accomodation. We still managed to have our own cabana right on the beach, but we still felt a bit uneasy, aka twilight zone. We were the only two pwople at the bar/restaurant for three hours until Joel(U.S.) walked in and told us how great Tofo was with it's long stretches of beach and great vibe at Bamboozi Backpackers. He also mentioned that his backpack had got stolen that afternoon on the beach right outside the Baobab.
The next morning we got up and drove to Tofo.
