Yesterday morning we had a thorough cleaning of our wing at 10am. It didn't take us very long since there were 12 of us cleaning everything. After we finished cleaning, Professor Diercks promised to take us out to a cafe as a reward. So at around 11:30 we went down to Wortner's down the street. Not everyone came but most of the class was there. We sat outdoors and had a really good time. Then we went to lunch at the Theresianum.
After lunch Katie, Taylor, Craig and I went to Stephansplatz to climb the spire of Stepansdom. It only cost $3.50. Craig counted the stairs up and it was like 360ish. It was of course a narrow spiral staircase the whole way up. Once we reached the top there was like a little gift shop up there and windows to see out over the city. The view was really nice. Stephansdom is in the center of the city so it was nice to be able to see all sides of the city from up there.
After we descended we looked around for a while at the festivities that were happening on Stephansplatz. Stuff was still happening from the labor day the day before. I think they called it Staats day or something like that. They had a bunch of vendors selling things and there was live music everywhere. When we originally got to the Stephansdom there was a large concert band performing right next to the church. They were all wearing traditional Austrian clothes. We attempted to go souvenir shopping but every place that we went was really expensive. So I'm going to try to go today and hopefully will find some cheaper places to get stuff. We didn't make it back to the Theresianum in time for dinner so we made some dinner with some food that we had to use up anyway.
It was Kim's 21st birthday yesterday so we all decided to go out with her last night. We had a lot of fun, I didn't get in until like 3am. The creepy side of Vienna comes out at that time in the morning I've decided.
Today I'm going souvenir shopping hopefully and maybe I'm going to start doing some packing and I'm going to church tonight for the English mass at St. Stephan's.
