Where I stayed
Sadly it is time to leave our wonderful apartment at Casa del Almirante. We could have stayed much longer here, even more so given the warm welcome and hospitality of José and Maria... but the road is calling us. Today's short drive takes us from coastal Viña del Mar to the big capital city of Santiago.
On the way we manage to cross the famous port and beach town of Valparaiso. Although the city is clean and appealing we are very pleased that we decided to stay in Viña del Mar instead - a more laid-back and attractive place in our view.
The drive between Valparaiso and Santiago takes us through the beautiful Casablanca Valley, a land full of vineyards. We quickly stop in the town of Casablanca but find out there isn't much to see here so we decide to go straight to Santiago.
We tend to avoid big cities so Santiago is a bit of an oddball in our journey but we heard good things about it and we need to get there anyway to do the paperwork for our dogs at the department of agriculture, so why not stay a couple of days? Our hotel is located in a very cool neighborhood called 'Paris-Londres' with architecture reminiscent of these European cities and cute pedestrian cobblestone streets. Nice! The hotel is in dire need of some renovation but we manage to get into one of the better rooms and the staff is not only accepting our dogs, they are excited to see them!
