This morning we were wondering why the neighbors were blocking traffic in the street, setting up big tents and bringing coolers full of cold beer. By 9am we realized that the traditional pastime on Sundays in Cartagena is baseball. Different teams compete, wearing the colors of their street or block. Although the game is serious, the most important aspect is the party atmosphere. It starts slowly in the morning and by mid-afternoon the music pumps up. Every 100 yards giant sets of speakers pop up out of nowhere and blast salsa music. Typically grandma and grandpa sit on their rocking chair near the speakers. Over the years the Sunday ritual seems to have rendered them completely deaf and the only way for them to follow the beat is probably to watch the beer and liquor bottles vibrate to the rhythm of the bass.

Colombians love baseball, love salsa and love to party!
