Yesterday I set my wake-up alarm to 5.30am in order to watch the sunrise and enjoy the outdoors as much as possible before the sun flexes its power and sends every sane person indoors. Despite the short night of sleep I am able to get up and enjoy the sunrise above the ocean and the hills as the fishermen and the pelicans finish their shift and get ready to rest.

After a quick breakfast I do my martial arts warm-up, calisthenics, practice and forms on the balcony overlooking the Sea of Cortez. I've been dreaming of this and it's every bit as exhilarating as I imagined it. I am soaked in sweat - despite the early hour it's already 80 degrees and the sun is rising fast.

Only one thing is missing to fully enjoy this morning: a dip in the ocean. I put on the snorkel gear and get into the water. Right in front of the house, in hip-high water, fish are all around me. Tiny silver needlefish, large silver fish, blue/purple/yellow parrot fish, you name it... but don't take my word on naming them: I know nothing about fish! Regardless, this is awesome and it's right here in front of the house! By 9.30am I am ready for second breakfast and I am pretty confident that I found the perfect way to start the day.
