Friday 13 July
Woke up early and cycled down road to local shop where we sat inside and had breakfast and the watched the men arriving for their beer and vodka breakfast. Now in the foothills of the Carpathians so over a small pass with big pink reinforced concrete bus shelter on top and through rural areas, with more soviet war memorials. Onto more passes with impressive views and on the decent found a large WW2 soviet and desecrated German cemetery. Large soviet style concrete icons in the towns and large fantastic, 30cm dovetail jointed, wooden churches in the countryside.
Looking for a camping site by rubbish surrounded spa and spotted wooden covered seats next to council house. Cycled to local garage for a drink. Lots of stunning women but no contact as we smelt and were dressed in cycle gear, but got a few good local beers down us for the rough night ahead. Back to shack down pitch black road, laid our sleeping bags on the floor and got undressed. Just brushing teeth when 3 men turned up out of the dark. Slightly scary but it turned out they were security who said we couldn't stay. After a few hand signals and the magic word 'tourists' they said we could stay till 7am to a bit of laughter. To sleep but very cold so should have worn some clothes. It rained during night but we remained completely dry although the noise on the roof kept me awake.
