Thursday 13 July
At Zagan found an English speaker who directed me to the tourist information that didn't exist so in the end started asking for Stalag 3 and started getting somewhere. Found an English speaking electrical shop and managed to get a polish adaptor as I'd left mine at Harrys. Fortunatly the owners son was in Cork so they gave me a lift to the museum 4k out of town. Museum was excellent although the building was horrendous. I was the only visitor so they sat me down to watch an introductory dvd. Walked round the museum with lots of artifacts and chillingly the gestapo photos of the 50 executed. Obviously they didn't speak English so I pointed outside and the lady got out a map directing me to tunnel Harry. I couldn't have map so had to photograph it and go off that. 1.5k walk but well worth it, still some remains of buildings and the route of the tunnel clearly marked, so I was standing where the 76 men (3 made home runs) came out in the great escape - amazing. Walked the 4k back to the train station had some bread and chicken pate and brought a ticket. Left 1 Zt on the change plate and the girl next in the queue pointed it out, I asked if she spoke English, she did, she was going to Wroclaw so I joined her. Train broke down at Goliszow so had to wait 30 mins for another loco.
