Mon 19th June
Spent the morning blogging and doing sit-ups, then walked to the station to go to Andreas (Harry's sister) in Nindorf (30k from Hamburg). After a change of train arrived in Hechthausen a little early so sat down by a pub and waited to get picked up. It transpired that Andrea thought I was coming the week after so after waiting a couple of hours I gave her a call. Onto the bread shop and back home to meet Gunte, Lina and Helles. Had a lovely meal then fed the ponies and put the chickens to bed. Watched the late news then to bed myself. Had a few funny dreams and a bit of sleep walking. Thought I was in an airport.

Tue 20 June
Up at 9. House empty but Andrea had left me Breky. Went for a run but without any maps just had to run 6k down road and 6k back. Lunch with Lina and Halles who finish school at 1, homework then prepare the children for the Germany game which they were watching back at school all dressed up. Gave Halles my Gecko bottle opener. Andrea and myself took Lina for her pony riding training as she had a competition on Sunday. Then took the ponies to the meadow while Lina prepared dinner. Andrea had very kindly decided to drive me to the pub for England game. Went to first, closed, second, not showing the game, third, was. The screen was quite small, the barmaid was miserable, but the people watching the game were excellent, with Andrea translating what they were saying. Its normal for the area to keep yourself to yourself so when Andrea tried to make conversation it was tricky. I was wearing my England shirt so you'd expect some questioning, but nothing. We left pub at full time, I was slightly sloshed, got into the car which was parked behind a hedge, drove a few k down the road when the police flashing lights got Andrea to stop. I said I'd stay out the way, so Andrea got out the car and said was I speeding? Reply no, how many drinks have you had? Andrea said 2 shandies. The policewoman said Oh dear and flashed the torch on me and then said OK carry on. Home to bed.

Wed 21 June
Up a 9 and breky. Went shopping with Andrea first to the asparagus (Crouch nickname in Germany) shop for the last of the season. Then to the bank and grocers, meeting lots of Andreas friends then back home. Andrea gave me a local map for my run so I could go on a more interesting 10k route round a local forest. Shower, food then dropped Lina off at friends then Andrea, Helles and myself went for a trip to the Elbe river. Many kilometers of land have been reclaimed by building dikes with most of the old houses built on little banks in case of flooding. Went to a beach and had a picnic with cups of tea, watching the huge ships coming to and from Hamburg. Back home and too tired to go to the pub so watched the Holland Argentina game on telly.

Thu 22 June
Got up early at 7 to see the family before I left. Everyone including me surprised to see I'd made it. Andrea very kindly took me to the station.
