So let's ease into this.
First Chinese BBQ is great. I remember going to this restaurant on Greenville Ave back in the late 80's for the first time, taken by my friend Paul Kuo. It was a hole in the wall, the worn carpet had a grease path on it which was hard to ignore. That was probably due to the meat cart right inside the front door. Greasy glass gave a hazy view of the delectable deliciousness to come. Whole roasted ducks and barbeque pork, hanging on stainless steel hooks, dripping the rendered fat into the bins of organ meats underneath. Yum! I stood transfixed by the cleaver wielding Asian man as he took pieces down and expertly chopped it into submission, weighed it on a scale and plated it up. The menu was mostly Chinese and luckily Paul took care of the order. What heaven came marching out of that kitchen! Since then I have gone back many times. The decor has been updated (and cleaned) and the menu made slightly more English speaking user friendly. Always the minority as a caucasian, I often feel like I'm catching some attitude from the staff, but usually my comfort with the place and familiarity with the menu tend to soothe the cultural dissonance.
