We took a bus to Bled, a small resort town that sits at the feet of the Julian Alps. We arrived at 9:30, before the crowds came. I have not seen a more picturesque, fairy-tale setting in my life. Grad Bled, as you can see, sits dramatically on a rocky cliff overlooking Lake Bled. In the middle of the lake there is a small island with an old church. The Alps peek out above the foothills that surround the town. What more could you ask for? An international music festival? Well, we were just in time for the Okarina Folk Festival. But more on this tomorrow.

Later in the day we walked to the Vintgar Gorge. A wooden walkway was built to take visitors through the gorge, from bottom to top. Look at the pics...

From there we took a different route back to Bled, through the surrounding countryside. The views of the Alps were spectacular. We returned to Ljubljana and decided to spend the next few days in Bled.
