So our school took us on a day trip to Siena and San Gimignano. (Siena FYI is the next city I want to live in!!) It's the city with the famous horse race, il palio. The whole place is obsessed with this race, it happens twice every summer. The city is split into 17 different districts and the districts get their own horse then they fill the main piazza with sand and create a racing rink every year. The winning district wins all this money and every other district has to take town their flags so that the winners are the only ones getting to show off! (Italians LOVE competition!). We were there a month after the 2nd race, the winning district was just plastered in their flags and plaques and decorations, it was pretty fun. Then we went to San Gimignano, its one of the most well preserved mideavel towns in Italy. It was so surreal. This iddy biddy little city that looks like it hasnt changed at all in the last 100 years. It's also famous in tuscany for its white wine, so of course, we had to try it out! We got a bottle of vino bianco and sat on the wall of the city looking at the most incredible tuscan horizon you could ever dream of. It was my first real experience outside of the city, it was so amazing!
