Planning to take the boat today from Moin, a suburb of Limon, to Tortuguero but sadly no-one else interested, so was forced to spend the day in the city.

A couple of nice old colonial buldings among the unpainted concrete boxes, including the cathedral, and rubbish strewn streets. Not pretty and the hostel was no better, though it was cheap and had good cable TV- so, couch potato for the day.

Did emerge for food, banking and shopping - needed to replace my flip flops that had fallen apart under the strain of all the rain in PV.

Economised still further & got the bus to Moin - $1 as opposed to the $8 each way the taxi wanted to charge and stopped really close by anyway.

Luckily, there were others booked so the trip left - not on time, mind you! The 4 hour boat ride was $35 and included having all the wildlife en route pointed out -  I thought it was a good deal and much better than going & returning the same way. We saw plenty of birds, some caimans and some black river turtles. The route was really scenic, weaving through wide canals, river mouths and narrow jungle hugged rivers. The raging current, fallen trees and silt were a problem but dredgers are goverment run, hence little dredging is done!
