Here in Chitre to break up the journey across Panama, so within daily striking distance of Bocas del Toro manana. Changed buses in Penonome the state capital of Cocle, which is famous for it's Panama hats - there was a reasonable selection but none roll up for packing sadly.

Prime attraction for breaking journey here was Parita, a tiny unspoilt colonial village,10k's N of town. Parita itself takes an easy 1/2 hour stroll - not much else to do there & not worth the effort.

Chitre is a pleasant town, Herrera state capital, but annoyingly the bus station is outside the centre necessitating a 15 cent bus or a $1.15 taxi ride. This local bus goes to La Arena too, which is the place with many tacky ceramics shops but also some quite pleasant colonial houses too.

Hotel not cheap (> $15) but have got wifi in lobby, private balcony and cable TV in English for the first time in months - luxury!
