Our second stop today was at the Watersnood Museum, which comemmorates the disastrous flood of 1953 when a late January nor'easter swept away many of the dikes of Holland with a storm surge from the North Sea. It's all very reminiscent of our American experience with Hurricane Katrina.
The museum is housed inside a concrete caisson ... one of four that were used to put the final seal in place to close the last hole in the dikes, and to allow the country to finallly dry out once again.
