I didn't know what to expect of LA. You hear so much about the place. The glamour of Hollywood, the beaches of the bay and the lifestyle's of the rich and famous around Beverly Hills. At first it was pretty cool, seeing all these famous places you have heard about for so long, but then you look a bit deeper and realise maybe its not as glamorous as you would expect. I think there is so much hype about the place that it kinda leaves you disappointed, when in fact Hollywood seems like just another suburb in the enormous sprawl of LA's suburbs. Actually, in some ways it can be a little tacky too. Poorly dressed movie look-a-like characters earn a dollar by posing for photos with tourists (And some are really poorly dressed - one derelict wore a superman T-shirt and a tablecloth cape as his outfit!!).

On the bright side though, Universal Studios was fantastic. You get to tour the studio lots and the rides are impressive.

Yesterday we headed down to Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Venice beach is interesting, full of 'strange people'. Hippies, surfers, drunks, muscle builders, artists. At least the beggers are honest and straight to the point, waving an empty cup and singing "Support your local drunk!" (Sung to the tune of jingle bells of course). We drove around the stars homes (again nothing to get excited about - just houses, most with high fences and hedges so you can't see much). No wonder they call this place LA LA land. In the afernoon we got tickets to see The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and got to be part of the live audience. He interviewed Hugh Laurie (From House) and a few other American celebrities I didn't know. LOL. That was pretty cool to see how a live show worked.
