Where I stayed
Henry's Fork Ranch
Today we reaffirmed the reason that it is called fishing and not catching. It was extremely windy by the time we got to the river's edge. Fortunately the wind was coming from the southeast and we are on the east bank so casting was not a great problem. Maintaining a vertical position proved to be a greater challenge, especially when standing in the current. We did stay dry but only fished for a couple of hours. We spent no time catching. Returning to the confines of our new home, away from home, was a challenge easily met.
Since we didn't catch any fish today, we thought we would share a bit about the ranch and its family. The owner's name is Bill and the ranch has been in his family since the 50's when his grandfather bought it. Bill's father was career U.S. Navy and was on the first crew of the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear submarine. He was also a hunter and some of his prizes adorn our cabin, as illustrated below.
Bill's grandparents lived in the prior version of the cabin that we are staying in, and the building next door was for the hired hand. Bill and his wife Teresa have lived on the ranch since 1985 in a house just to the north of us that they built.
Tonight is movie night in our loft theater, so we will sign off now.
